Auditions

Well, I had my auditions yesterday. It didn't go as planned. I was going to write about it yesterday, once my casting was finalized, but I was too mad to really write anything that wasn't pure venting. I'm still pretty mad, but I've calmed down a bit.

I had everything set out the night before - printed out forms, printed out my selected cold reading scenes, worked over how things would run in my head - then I went to bed. I was woken up by a call from somebody who wished to audition but couldn't make the time. That's fine, I set up an earlier time to accommodate. Thank God they could do earlier that day, because I couldn't push it back another day; other people auditioning and all. That's a whole different gripe though. I still hate the fact that I had to audition this early; I think it's entirely too early for a show this late in the semester to be auditioning, let alone shows after mine. I think it's very impatient, rushed, and not well thought out. But I digress.

Then I go to Waller, I audition the early comer, and I set up the MPR. 4:45 comes, and my one day stage manager still hasn't shown up. 4:50. 5:00. People are now outside, ready to audition, and the person who said they would stage manage for me completely bailed and fucked me over. Not good. So, to say that the rest of the audition process was a bit chaotic, is an understantement. I am so very thankful that my auditioners were patient with me. All 7 of them.

Segway to bitching about attendance. With the early comers, and late comers (I also had to reschedule another), only 7 people showed up. That's great for the actors, considering I cast 5 people and then 1 became my stage manager, but it left me with little choice what-so-ever. I was prepared for a few people to flake, but not that many. Especially the ones that told me, to my face, that they were going to be there. I especially took those ones personally.

Either way, despite terrible attendance, I got, what I think is a great cast. I think it is going to go really well.

Sam Barkeep: Hank Fodor
Melissa: Simone Marcus
Dan/Phil: Will Weimer
Chris/Allen: Cameron Ashbaugh
Azrael: Joe York

Oh and as for silly questions, mine were answered. For the record - Gambit and Wolverine seem to be the favorite X-Men. And for the tally. which is better, Emus or Llamas, it was a tie (3 Llama, 3 Emu, 1 Wombat? what?).
