First Week Recap

I had my first week of rehearsals. I have realized that I could not have asked for a better cast. They have been prepared and ready for anything, and their enthusiasm is incredible.

I started off Sunday with a reading of the script - after that, we talked a little bit about it, I answered any questions that we brought up, and we brought up issues that may occur. Then with all of that in mind, we ran through the script again. Will's courageousness in jumping into a Brooklyn accent without fear was a really pleasant surprise. I had not intended to ask that of him for awhile, if at all. I'm not sure even I could have done that, but he tried it, and rocked it.

Monday we did two sets of character walks, the first hour devoted to After Hours and the second hour to No Home. The first section went quickly, about 30 minutes, so I could get Hank out of there and to Matt's rehearsal
-side note: How is Hank doing 3 shows and not shooting himself in the face? I'm barely dealing with 2.
Even though it was quick, their characters really came to life. It was amazing to see the change. I felt bad for poor Cameron, as none of the characters really wanted to talk to Allen the Goody-Two shoes Angel. He got picked on a lot. In character of course. We also did a character Q and A afterwards, which gave some fun results. The next section was a bit more fun and light hearted, since Will and Cameron knew what to expect. What they didn't expect was that swinging your hips too much makes you 'feel like you've just given birth'. Not sure how they would know that... either way, it was still very productive and very fun. Plus Will and Cameron are Uber Adorable. Just saying.

Tuesday was full of character conferences. I was surprised by the amount of thought people had put into this. Once again, I could not ask for a more devoted cast. It was really amazing. You will not believe the answers I got. And it seems my cast, as characters, have now officially killed or assisted in the killing of, JFK, Heath Ledger, Steve Irwin, Kurt Cobain, and Anna Nicole Smith. I'm sure more will follow as our character talks continue.

Today was spend working on the blocking of No Home. Surprisingly we've gotten through the whole thing. It wasn't full level acting - I told the it was just blocking today, no need to exert yet. But still, to have blocking done is a glorious thing. Now we can work on tweeking the acting sections of it. Along with getting that done, my cast continued to contribe by throwing ideas out (like eating pretzels to spite other characters, or having a portable first aid kit that chris would always have with him). It was a good day.

I did have a rehearsal scheduled for Thursday, but I cancelled due to my involvement in Tyler's show (I should never have signed up for that - what the hell was I thinking). While I would normally be mad at having to sacrifice a rehearsal day, I'm actually quite ok with it. Everybody on the show has been putting in top notch work, and I think we're right on track. Plus with my schedule, I had thought I might find time to shave off. (I scheduled the same amount of rehearsal time as I did for 'The Nail and the Screw', and that show was twice as long as this one. figured there would be some extra time to play around and move things.)

Well, I have to run to walmart quickly for various shit, and maybe find some food - eating would be nice.

Read My Script!

I know I should be working on the million and a half things I need to do for this week, but I needed to take a break. And updating this is still technically work, but the type of work that requires the least amount of brain function.

So I updated my script. The link on the post before still works. I will have people read it on class on Thursday though, so if you don't get to it by then, don't worry (not like you really would).

Sorry, I just want to make sure it works before I print out the bajillion of copies I need. But I would like to know if this one works better than the old one - if I fixed all the holes and whatnot. I would love to know.

Well, I'm going to go back to drawing up the set, setting preliminary blocking, making games, memorizing lines for Tyler, writing papers for Phenomenology, and going completely bat-shit crazy.
